When was International Youth Day celebrated for the first time
The history of International Youth Day is 24 years old. This day was celebrated for the first time in the year 2000. The year 1985 was made the International Youth Year. Seeing its success, in 1995, the United Nations (UN) started the ‘World Program for Youth’.
The World Youth Conference in Lisbon, Portugal in 1998 focused on youth development and participation. The UN then passed a resolution to celebrate Youth Day on 17 December 1999. The idea came from the World Youth Forum of the United Nations System held in Vienna, Austria in 1991.
