India at Paris Olympics 2024: Indian wrestling has been at a standstill for the last 2 years as many senior wrestlers including Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia have continued to protest against the former president of Wrestling Federation of India, Brij Bhushan Singh. In such a situation, many big names are missing from India’s wrestling camp for Paris Olympics 2024. Well, Yogeshwar Dutt, bronze medalist in 2012 London Olympics, has now made a prediction about the wrestlers.
There is not much time left for the Paris Olympic Games to begin. These games will start from July 26 and will continue till July 11 and if we look at India’s wrestling camp, 6 wrestlers have qualified. These 6 athletes include 5 women and one male athlete. The names of these 6 wrestlers are Aman Sehrawat, Antim Pangal, Vinesh Phogat, Anshu Malik, Nisha Dahiya and Ritika Hooda.
2 medals can come – Yogeshwar Dutt
Yogeshwar Dutt has expressed hope in a media interview that this time too the Indian wrestling camp will not return without a medal. Expressing hope of 2 wrestlers winning medals, he said, “Our 5 girls have qualified for the Olympics, out of which I hope that one or two girls can win a medal. Anant Panghal and other wrestlers also have a lot of experience. We hope that we will win 2 medals this time.”
Ritika and Anant will hoist the flag
Yogeshwar Dutt himself has been an Olympic medal winner and knows which wrestler is capable of winning a medal. He has placed his bets on Anant Panghal and Ritika Hooda and said that these two female wrestlers can bring glory to India in the Paris Olympics. Dutt said that since 2008, India has been continuously winning medals in wrestling and this tradition will definitely continue this time too.
What did Yogeshwar say on the wrestling controversy?
Expressing grief over the wrestling controversy that has been going on for the last 2 years, Yogeshwar Dutt said, “The last 1.5 to 2 years have not been good for Indian wrestling at all, which has saddened me a lot. This time has been very bad for this sport and it has affected the progress of wrestling in India. Also, the negativity towards wrestling has increased among the people who like it in India.”
