There are lakhs of such children across the country, whose school is far away from reach. School is like a dream for them. Recently it was revealed that there are more than 11 lakh children across the country who are not going to school.
Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary informed the Lok Sabha that in the first eight months of the financial year 2024-25, there are more than 11.70 lakh children across the country who are not going to school. These figures highlight a serious concern, which has emerged as a challenge for both the government and the society.

The first name in this list is from UP, adjacent to the country’s capital Delhi. Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of 7.84 lakh children out of schools. Apart from this, lakhs of children in Jharkhand and Assam are also deprived of education. More than 65 thousand children in Jharkhand and 63 thousand children in Assam are outside the mainstream of education. These figures show that there is still a lot of work to be done in terms of access and quality of education in India, especially in rural and backward areas.
Expectation of improvement in rural literacy rate
The Minister of State said that there has been a significant improvement in the rural literacy rate in the last decade. In 2011, this rate was 67.77 percent, which has increased to 77.50 percent in 2023-24. Especially important steps have been taken towards improving the female literacy rate. The literacy rate of women has increased from 57.93 percent to 70.40 percent, while among men this rate has increased from 77.15 percent to 84.7 percent. This shows that an overall development is taking place in the field of education. In which women are especially being empowered.
Steps towards artificial intelligence
Steps have also been taken towards technological innovation in the field of education. The Union Minister said that this year in the academic session of 2024-25, more than 7.90 lakh students have chosen the subject of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in classes 9 and 10. Along with this, more than 50 thousand students are taking education in this subject in class 11 and 12. This is an indication that significant progress is also being made in the direction of technical education and innovation in the country.
