Education is important for everyone. In India, everyone has the right to education. There is reservation facility in the country for people coming from backward castes. But do you know that apart from reservation, there are some other ways through which you can get admission in these reputed institutes. These include NRI quota, NRI sponsored, supernumerary seats, talent based admission, competitive examination, defense quota and management quota.
NRI Quota
Under the NRI quota, special seats are reserved for Indian citizens living abroad. To get admission under this quota, students have to prove that they are NRIs. This quota is beneficial for those students who want to pursue higher education in the Indian education system. As per the order of the Supreme Court, the seats reserved for NRIs should not exceed 15%.
NRI Sponsored Quota
NRI sponsored quota is also a good option, in which NRI students are sponsored by their relatives or guardians. There are limited number of seats in this type of quota, and the student has to clear a special entrance exam or meet eligibility criteria.
Supernumerary seats
Supernumerary seats are for students who have special abilities or talents. These seats are at the discretion of the institute and students who demonstrate excellence in various fields are given priority in them. The Union Human Resource Development Ministry introduced supernumerary seats for female students in IITs in 2018. Its purpose was to increase the participation of female students in higher education. In the year 2020, the number of these supernumerary seats was increased to 20%.
Talent Based Admission
Talent based admission is another option. In which students are given admission based on their special talent such as sports, music, or art. This is for those students who want to get a place in the institute on the basis of their special talent.
Competitive Exam
Taking admission through competitive exams is a common process. Most institutes conduct their own entrance exams in which students have to score good marks. These exams are conducted in various subjects, and students appear in them according to their ability.
Defense Quota
Defense quota is for those students whose family is related to the defense forces. This quota provides special benefits to those students who are associated with this field through their parents.
Management Quota
Apart from this, management quota is for those students who want to get admission by directly contacting the management of the institute. Higher fees can be charged under this quota.
