On Wednesday, October 23, the stock exchange had sought clarification from Zomato regarding media reports of increasing the platform fee by Rs 10 following the surge in online food delivery during the festive season. Because Zomato is a listed company, clarification was sought from it. On Thursday, October 24, 2024, Zomato said in a regulatory filing filed with the stock exchange, we would like to state that this is not a rumor. Because only Zomato mobile app has been cited as the source of the news in the media, which is publicly available and anyone can see it.
Zomato said that, we have increased the platform fees in some cities on Wednesday 23 October. The company said that such changes are a matter of routine business and the company takes such decisions from time to time. The company said that platform fees may vary from one city to another.
While earlier Zomato was charging platform fee of Rs 6 per order, now the company has increased it to Rs 10 per order. Swiggy was earlier charging Rs 7 as platform fee, which the company has increased to Rs 10 per order. Zomato said that the increase in platform fees is an immediate decision. Which has been taken to manage the surge in orders during the festive season. The company said, this fee will help Zomato to pay its bills.
