Zerodha’s Nithin Kamath idea: Zerodha co-founder Nitin Kamath has said a big thing on the issue of air pollution in many major metro cities of the country. Nikhil Kamath has suggested fixing property prices on the basis of air quality in such cities. He believes that the seriousness with which we should think about urban pollution is not being seen.
Nitin Kamath has posted on social media platform X and has also shared a paper clipping with it. This paper clipping contains data on deaths caused by pollution and other dangerous effects related to air quality. According to him, if property prices are decided on the basis of air and water quality, then improvement will be seen in the cities facing severe pollution in the country. Nitin Kamath feels that this idea may seem revolutionary but it can also prove to be effective.
Nitin Kamath has written that.. we should be surprised as to what else is waiting for us to take air pollution more seriously. This number of deaths is covering the data only till the year 2019 and after 5 years i.e. till 2024, the situation has only worsened.
If property price discount is given on the basis of air quality, then the prices will be higher in the cities where the air and water quality is good and the property prices will be lower in those cities of the country where the air is poisonous and the water is dirty.
According to Nitin Kamath, if there is economics behind it then perhaps we will be able to find a solution. Essentially, property rates will be determined by the quality of air and water, so a property owner is paying not just for his property but for the entire place and environment that is nearby. After this it is possible that people may become alert. Explaining this, he said, “If I want to buy a property in JP Nagar and to take care of it, I assess the environment of the entire JP Nagar, then it can give better results.”
Nitin Kamath also argued that while the harm of Delhi’s poisonous air gets all the attention, the air quality of most cities of India is also poor and these include the cities of Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Bengaluru.
