Zakir Hussain was the son of Ustad Allah Rakha
Zakir Hussain was born on March 9, 1951 as the eldest son of famous tabla player Ustad Allah Rakha. He started his professional career in Indian classical music at the age of 12. By the age of 18, he started performing on international stages. Zakir Hussain’s work was not limited to classical music only. He also collaborated with some of music’s greatest names, such as George Harrison, cellist Yo-Yo Ma and jazz musician Herbie Hancock.
