Latest ICC Rankings Test Batsman: Indian batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal has got a huge advantage in the latest rankings released by ICC. Jaiswal has benefited from his brilliant innings of 161 runs in the first test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 (BGT 2024). He has now moved from fourth to second place in the Test batting rankings. He may not have got the Player of the Match award, but he definitely made a big contribution in Team India’s huge victory of 295 runs.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s ranking has reached 825, but England’s Joe Root continues to dominate the Test batting rankings. Jaiswal may have reached second place, but in terms of ratings he is still far behind Root. Talking about Perth Test, Jaiswal was dismissed by Mitchell Starc on the score of zero in the first innings. But in the second innings, he scored 161 runs and made a partnership of 201 runs with KL Rahul to take India to a huge lead in the match.
Virat Kohli also got bumper benefit
On one hand, Yashasvi Jaiswal has got the benefit of playing a century innings, after which he has come to second place in the ranking of batsmen. Rishabh Pant is also included in the top-10, who remains at sixth position as before. In the Perth Test, Pant played innings of 1 and 37 runs in the first and second innings respectively. After him comes Virat Kohli, who was not even included in the top-20 before the Perth Test. But with his 30th century in Test cricket, he has gained 9 places in the rankings, after which he has come at number 13.
The second match of India vs Australia Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 is to be played in Adelaide from 6th December. If Jaiswal can maintain his rhythm in this series, then he can definitely become the number-1 batsman in Tests. It is also worth noting that the England vs New Zealand three-Test series is starting from 28th November. By performing well in it, Joe Root can also retain his first position.
