5th August is considered the lucky date of Hindi cinema because films of 60s – 90s earned a lot at the box office on this date. ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ was released in 1994 which was directed by Suraj Barjatya…this film holds the title of being the first 100 crore film in terms of gross earnings at the domestic box office. The film ‘Betaab’ released on 5th August 1982 became the second highest grossing film of the year of its release. This film was directed by Rahul Rawail. According to reports, the film ‘Love in Tokyo’ released in 1966 was the fifth highest grossing film of that year which was directed by Pramod Chakarborty. The film ‘Mughal-e-Azam’, released on 5 August 1960, earned around 10 crore rupees and proved to be the highest grossing film of the year. It took more than 15 years to make it.
