Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan played the role of father and son in Shakti. Rakhee and Smita Patil also played important roles in this film. Salim-Javed had written the story of this film, so it was obvious that the film was bound to be a hit.
Because of this the film was refused
When Ramesh Sippy narrated the story of the film to Amitabh Bachchan, he liked it very much. When Amitabh asked Ramesh Sippy who would play the role of his father, he told him Dilip Kumar. When Amitabh Bachchan heard this, he refused to do the film because he thought how could he work with such a great artist. He told this to Ramesh Sippy and decided that he would not do the film. When Dilip Kumar came to know about this, he called him and said- ‘Amit, don’t say no to this film. I want to do a film with you and want to learn from you.’
Amitabh Bachchan became emotional
Hearing this from Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan became emotional and could not refuse this film. Amitabh Bachchan told in an interview that when he looked into Dilip Kumar’s eyes, he forgot all the dialogues.
