India Participation ICC Champions Trophy 2025: The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is to be played in Pakistan from 19 February to 9 March next year. Now a fact has come to light that 7 teams have been decided for the Champions Trophy, but there is a struggle between two teams for the eighth position. Actually this matter is related to the Indian cricket team because the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet given any formal statement on sending Team India to Pakistan.
Let us tell you that India qualified for the Champions Trophy last year. At the same time, in the proposed schedule sent by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to the ICC, all the matches of India are to be held at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. But how can it be that some other team comes in the Champions Trophy in place of India. Since Team India has not gone to play any match in Pakistan since 2008 and there is very little hope of this happening for the 2025 Champions Trophy as well. Although the BCCI can demand a hybrid model from the International Cricket Council (ICC), but what will happen if India is not a part of the Champions Trophy?
If India does not participate, then what?
The stand of PCB is clear that Champions Trophy 2025 will be organized only in Pakistan. At the same time, Pakistan Cricket Board is also not in favor of any hybrid model. In such a situation, if the Indian team does not go to Pakistan to play Champions Trophy 2025, then who will take its place? In such a situation, Sri Lanka will be declared the eighth team of the tournament to be held next year. This is because Sri Lanka finished ninth in the 2023 ODI Cricket World Cup. If any one of the top-8 teams is out, Sri Lanka will become eligible to play in the Champions Trophy on the basis of the World Cup points table.
