Harish Salve on Vinesh Phogat: The country’s renowned lawyer Harish Salve has made a big claim about star wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who has entered the field of politics. Salve was Vinesh’s lawyer in CAS. In fact, Vinesh Phogat was disqualified due to being 100 grams overweight after reaching the final of 50 kg wrestling in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Later she appealed against this decision in CAS.
Vinesh Phogat was a strong contender to win the gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, on the day of the final, she was disqualified due to being 100 grams overweight. After this, Vinesh appealed to CAS, the court that looks into sports matters, for the silver medal. Harish Salve was fighting Vinesh’s case. However, CAS rejected Vinesh’s case.
Harish Salve has given this statement after Vinesh’s statement. Recently Vinesh had said that when she was disqualified before the final of Paris Olympics due to being 100 grams overweight, she did not get any support from the Indian Olympic Association. Vinesh even said that PT Usha had also come just to take photos. Along with this, Vinesh also reacted to lawyer Harish Salve. She had said that Salve did not take a tough stand.
Now in an interview to Times Now, Harish Salve said, “We had put forward the matter of challenging the CAS decision to Vinesh Phogat, but Vinesh did not want to go to the Swiss court against this decision. I also told her that we can go to the Swiss court against this decision. But she did not give any answer. Her lawyers told that she does not want to take it forward now.”
Harish Salve also alleged that there was a lack of coordination from Vinesh Phogat’s side in the case. He said, “In the beginning, there was a lot of lack of coordination. Vinesh’s lawyer refused to share anything with the Indian Olympic Association’s law firm. He said that we cannot give you anything right now.”
