On the third day, New Zealand advanced its innings with a score of 198/5, but the Indian bowlers all out the Kiwi team within the next 57 runs. In this way India got the target of 359 runs in the fourth innings. Virat Kohli came to bat in the fourth innings when India had lost the second wicket at the score of 96. There Team India needed a partnership of 60-70 runs, but due to continuous fall of wickets the team was on the backfoot.
