‘World Health Organization’ said on Tuesday that last year more than 80 lakh people were suffering from TB disease. This is the highest number since the United Nations agency started tracking. TB is a type of bacterial infection that spreads rapidly in the air. It has the worst effect on the lungs. About 1/4 of the population in the entire world is suffering from TB. Its initial symptoms are visible only in 5-10 percent people.
TB can replace Covid
According to the World Health Organization report published on Tuesday, TB disease will replace Covid-19 in the year 2023 and it may turn into an epidemic. This is a disease caused by bacterial infection. Most of the people are dying due to this disease. This report highlights the challenges in global efforts to eradicate this disease.
Last year, more than 1.25 million people died due to TB.

TB is affecting these countries the most
According to WHO, TB continues to affect people in Southeast Asia, Africa and the Western Pacific. In which India, Indonesia, China, Philippines and Pakistan are responsible for more than half of the global cases.

“The fact that TB still kills and sickens so many people is shocking,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a statement. And the number of newly infected people has started to stabilise. The organization reported that less than half of the 400,000 patients suffering from drug-resistant TB last year were diagnosed and treated.
