Indian Cricket Team: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking more and more towards young players in Test cricket. Last Sunday (September 8), BCCI announced Team India for the first Test against Bangladesh, in which many young faces were seen. Uncapped fast bowler Yash Dayal’s name was also included among the young faces. So, the path to Team India seems to be closed for many veterans. The list of veterans also includes the team’s former vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara, famous as ‘The Wall’.
Ajinkya Rahane
At one time Rahane was the vice-captain of the Indian Test team, but now the doors of Team India seem to be completely closed for Rahane. Rahane has also captained the Indian Test team on a few occasions. Rahane played his last Test against West Indies in July 2023. Since then Rahane is being continuously ignored.
Cheteshwar Pujara
Cheteshwar Pujara was given the title of ‘The Wall’ after former Indian legendary batsman Rahul Dravid. Pujara has played 103 Test matches for India. He played his last Test for India in June 2023. Since then, Pujara has been constantly ignored.
K.S. Bharat
KS Bharat had once become the main backup wicketkeeper of the Indian Test team. Bharat played 7 Test matches for Team India. Earlier, Bharat was seen playing in the Test series against England, but he was not selected in the first Test of the Bangladesh series. BCCI gave a chance to a young wicketkeeper like Dhruv Jurel in the first Test against Bangladesh.
shardul thakur
Shardul Thakur gradually started becoming one of the main fast bowlers of Team India. He also got a chance to play some matches of the 2023 ODI World Cup. After this, Shardul was seen playing the Test series on the South Africa tour in December this year. However, since then Shardul has not been made a part of Team India.
