Niroshan Dickwella Ban Lifted for Doping: The ban on Sri Lankan wicketkeeper batsman Niroshan Dickwella has been lifted. He was banned for three years in August 2024 for violating doping rules. Actually, the Sri Lanka Anti-Doping Agency had found 31-year-old Dickwella to be consuming a banned drug, but after being sentenced, this Sri Lankan player had appealed against the decision. He has also presented evidence in his defence, after seeing which the Sri Lanka Cricket Board has lifted the ban imposed on Dickwella with immediate effect.
Niroshan Dickwella presented arguments in his defense and said that he had not consumed any banned drug while playing the competition. The substance he consumed has nothing to do with performance boosters. After looking at the evidence, Dickwella has now been allowed to play cricket again. Let us tell you that he last played a match for Sri Lanka in March 2023. He got a place in the squad for the T20 series against Bangladesh in March this year, but did not get a chance in the playing eleven.
Let us tell you that Niroshan Dickwella has been surrounded by difficulties before also. He also had to face suspension for violating rules in the year 2021. Niroshan Dickwella has played more than 130 international matches for Sri Lanka so far. He has 2,757 runs in his name in 54 Test matches and has also played 50 half-century innings during this period. He has scored 1,604 runs in 55 ODI matches and 480 runs in 28 T20 matches for Sri Lanka. In his career, he has scored only 2 centuries and 32 fifties. Apart from taking 187 catches as a wicketkeeper, he has also stumped a batsman 42 times.
