SL vs NZ Rest Day 1st Test: The first Test match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand started on 18 September. According to that, the fourth day’s play should have been played on 21 September, but the matter of it being declared a rest day is being widely discussed. Neither the weather was bad, nor the ground was wet, in fact there was no such obstacle due to which the game could not be played for a full day. So why has the fourth day been declared a rest day?
On this issue, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board issued an official statement stating that the fourth day is being declared a rest day. The reason for this was also mentioned in the statement, which said that presidential elections will be held in Sri Lanka on 21 September and the players of the host team will exercise their franchise and go to cast their votes in their respective constituencies. For this reason, while 22 September was going to be the last day of the match, now 23 September will be considered as the last day.
Let us also tell you that Sri Lankans will be voting for the first time in 2022 after the collapse of the economy. As far as the rest day is concerned, it was commonly used in the 20th century, but with the passage of time this rule is not used much. The last time a rest day was implemented in a Test match was during the Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh match in 2008.
