Stock Market Closing On 23 September 2024: The first trading session of the week has been historic for the Indian stock market. Sensex and Nifty closed at record highs. While the BSE Sensex failed to cross the record high of 85000 by a margin of only 20 points, the Nifty fell short of touching the historic high of 26000 by 44 points. However, due to strong buying in banking, auto, FMCG and energy stocks, the BSE Sensex closed with a jump of 384 points at 84,928 and the National Stock Exchange’s Nifty closed with a jump of 148 points at 25,939 points.
Rising and falling stocks
Out of the 30 Sensex stocks, 21 closed with gains and 9 closed with losses. Mahindra & Mahindra closed with a gain of 3.18%, SBI 2.35%, Bharti Airtel 2.26%, HUL 1.54%, Kotak Mahindra Bank 1.49%, UltraTech Cement 1.42%, Adani Ports 1.24%, Tata Steel 1.22%, NTPC 1.03%, HDFC Bank closed with a gain of 0.98%. Among the falling stocks, ICICI Bank closed down by 1.25 per cent, Indusind Bank by 1.05 per cent, Asian Paints by 0.97 per cent, Tech Mahindra by 0.89 per cent, HCL Tech by 0.49 per cent, Infosys by 0.48 per cent, TCS by 0.41 per cent, L&T by 0.21 per cent, Power Grid by 0.03 per cent, Sun Pharma by 0.03 per cent and JSW Steel by 0.01 per cent.
Market cap at record high
Due to the stock market closing at a record high, the market cap of the stock market has closed at a new historical high. The market cap of the stocks listed on the BSE has closed at a record high of Rs 476 lakh crore for the first time, which was closed at Rs 471.71 lakh crore in the last session. That is, in today’s session, the market cap has seen a jump of Rs 4.29 lakh crore.

In today’s trade, banking, auto, FMCG, metals, energy, real estate, infra, consumer durables, oil and gas and healthcare stocks closed with gains. While IT stocks closed with losses. In today’s trade, the Nifty midcap index closed at a record high of 60,712 points with a jump of 503 points. The Nifty smallcap index also closed with a jump of 216 points.
