According to the legend, a moneylender lived in a city. He had no shortage of money. But the only thing he lacked was children. The moneylender was a devotee of Lord Shiva and worshipped him daily. Seeing the devotion of the moneylender, one day Mother Parvati said to Bholenath, this devotee of yours is unhappy. Therefore, you should fulfill his wish. Bholenath told Mother Parvati that he has no children and this is the reason for his sadness.
But he is not destined to have a son. Even if he gets the boon of having a son, his son will live only for 12 years. The moneylender was also listening to these words of Lord Shiva. On one hand, the moneylender was happy to have a child, but on the other hand, he was disappointed. But still, he kept on doing puja and rituals.
One day his wife got pregnant. She gave birth to a beautiful child. Soon the child turned 11 years old and the moneylender sent him to Kashi to his maternal uncle to get education. Also, the moneylender asked his brother-in-law to feed a Brahmin on the way.
On the way to Kashi, a princess was getting married, whose groom was blind in one eye. When her father saw the very handsome son of a moneylender, he thought why not make him sit on a mare and complete all the marriage rituals. This is how the marriage took place. The moneylender’s son wrote on the princess’s dupatta that, you are getting married to me. But I am not the real prince. The real groom is blind in one eye. But the marriage had taken place and hence the princess did not leave with the real groom.
After this, the moneylender’s son came to Kashi with his maternal uncle. One day during a yagya in Kashi, the nephew did not come out for a long time, so the uncle went inside and saw that the nephew had died. The uncle started crying. Mother Parvati asked Lord Shiva, O Lord, who is crying?
Then he comes to know that he is the son of a money lender born with the blessings of Bholenath. Then mother Parvati said, Swamiji, please bring him back to life, otherwise his parents will die crying. Then Bholenath said, O Parvati, his life span was only that much which he has already lived.
But on the repeated requests of Goddess Parvati, Bholenath brought him back to life. Moneylender’s son Om Namah Shivay Saying this, he came back to life and both uncle and nephew thanked God and returned to their city. On the way, they reached the same city where he was married to the princess. The princess recognized him and the king sent the princess off with the moneylender’s son after giving her wealth and grains.
The moneylender was very happy to see his son and daughter-in-law. That very night, Lord Shiva appeared in the moneylender’s dream and said that I am pleased with your worship. That is why your son has got life again. That is why it is said that, the person who worships Lord Shiva and reads or listens to this story, all his sorrows will go away and he will get the desired result.
