wanted to become an actor since childhood
Satish Kaul was born on 8 September 1946 in Kashmir. He wanted to become an actor since childhood. This desire of his brought him to the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune. Satish struggled a lot to achieve a position and this struggle brought him to the Punjabi film industry. His father Mohanlal was a Kashmiri musician who was also the director of Mumbai Doordarshan.
Amitabh Bachchan was called the Amitabh Bachchan of Punjabi cinema
After 1973, Satish Kaul became a big face of the Punjabi industry. Satish Kaul received a lot of praise for his powerful roles in Sassi Punnu, Ishq Nimana, Prem Parvat, Suhag Chooda and Patola. After this, he was compared to Amitabh Bachchan and his popularity inspired him to enter Bollywood. Producer Shivkumar gave him a chance and he made his Bollywood debut with the film Ang Se Ang Lagale (1974).
Did not get success in Bollywood
Satish failed to make a big name in Bollywood. He also played the role of Dilip Kumar’s son in Karma, but Satish did not get the same success in Hindi cinema as he did in Punjabi cinema. Then Satish turned to TV. He appeared in some memorable serials on television, including shows like BR Chopra’s Mahabharata and Vikram Betaal. His role of Indra in Mahabharata made him very famous among Hindi audiences.
The death of his parents had left him devastated
In the 1990s, Satish did some B-grade films in Bollywood. His father was diagnosed with cancer and Satish spent his entire life’s savings for his treatment. Sadly, he could not save his father. A few years later, his mother also passed away. The death of his parents shook Satish to the core. Satish was also honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the PTC Punjabi Film Awards 2011 for his contribution to Punjabi cinema.
Satish Kaul had become bankrupt in his last days
Satish had acted in more than 300 films but in the last days of his life, he became a pauper. In this bad phase, the actor sought help from many film stars, but only Jackie Shroff helped him. The actor spent the last days of his life in Swami Vivekananda Vridha Ashram in Ludhiana. When the actor got infected with Covid 19, he was admitted to a hospital in Ludhiana.
He died on April 10, 2021 due to Covid.
