Sarod Maestro Aashish Khan Demise: Sarod player Ashish Khan has passed away at the age of 84. The great sarod player breathed his last in Los Angeles, America. Ashish Khan is one of those artists who gave an identity to Indian classical music in the world. He worked with international musicians like George Harrison, Eric Clapton and Ringo Starr.
Ashish Khan’s nephew, Ustad Shiraz Ali Khan has confirmed the demise of the veteran sarod player on social media. He shared Ashish Khan’s photo on Instagram and wrote – ‘With great sadness we inform you of the demise of our respected and beloved Ashish Khan on Friday, November 14, 2024. We are blessed to have him in our lives and he will always be in our hearts.
Took music training from grandfather and father
Ashish Khan was born in 1939 in a musical family. His grandfather Ustad Alauddin Khan and father Ustad Ali Akbar Khan were also excellent sarod players. He was the one who trained Ashish Khan. Ashish Khan started training in Indian classical music from a young age.
Ashish Khan was nominated for Grammy Awards
Ashish Khan was nominated for a Grammy Award in the ‘Best Traditional World Music Album’ category in 2006 for his album ‘Golden Strings of the Sarod’. In the year 2004, Ashish Khan was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. Ashish wanted to spread his skills across the world. That is why he trained students in many universities of America and Canada.
Popular samples of Ashish Khan include the scores of films like ‘Gandhi’ and ‘A Passage to India’. Apart from this, he also laid the foundation of an Indo-jazz band ‘Shanti’ with Ustad Zakir Hussain.
