‘Samrat Prithviraj’ was released in the year 2022
This film of Akshay Kumar was ‘Samrat Prithviraj’. This period drama was released in the year 2022 and proved to be a huge flop at the box office. Akshay Kumar was very hurt by the failure of the film. Actually, not only the filmmakers but also Akshay Kumar had high hopes from ‘Samrat Prithviraj’. The superstar thought that this film would support his career. However, when ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ was released, its box office collection dashed all the hopes of the actor and the makers.
‘Samrat Prithviraj’ could not even recover half the cost
According to a report by Box Office India, Akshay Kumar’s film ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ was made on a budget of Rs 300 crore. In India, the film collected only Rs 81 crore (India Gross). The total earnings of the film worldwide were Rs 90 crore (Worldwide Gross). In such a situation, this film could not even recover half of its cost. Due to which the makers suffered huge losses.
Akshay Kumar cried when the film flopped
Akshay Kumar’s film ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ was directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi. After the failure of the film, the director revealed in an interview on Mukesh Khanna’s YouTube channel that Akshay Kumar had to face a lot of criticism for this film. People were also angry about the age difference between him and Manushi Chillar. Chandraprakash Dwivedi also revealed that Akshay Kumar was very disappointed not only due to the heavy criticism he received for his ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ look but also due to the failure of the film at the box office and Akshay Kumar had tears in his eyes.
By the way, from 2022 till now, only Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 has been able to do decent business. Not only his ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ but also ‘Bachchan Pandey’, ‘Ram Setu’ and ‘Rakshabandhan’ and in the year 2024, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Sarfira and now Khel Khel Mein have also flopped at the box office.
