Police also said that the 30-year-old attacker had asked his brother in Bangladesh to send the documents. This helped the police identify him as a resident of the neighboring country. The accused has been identified as Shariful Islam Shahzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Faqir, who changed his name to Vijay Das.
This is how the police caught the attacker
He was arrested on Sunday after examining the CCTV footage. In the footage he was seen riding a motorcycle on January 9, a week before the attack. The incident has raised serious concerns over the security at the ‘Satguru Sharan’ building, where Saif lives with his family.
As the investigation progressed, Mumbai Police scanned footage from several areas of the city to gather evidence. Initially, the police faced challenges in locating the attacker.
Let us tell you that Shahzad, a resident of Jhalokati, Bangladesh, was living in Mumbai for the last five months, did small jobs and was associated with an agency doing cleaning work. Officials said that the police identified the intruder from his picture recorded in the CCTV camera.
There was a major breakthrough on Saturday night, when the police traced a digital payment made by a suspect at an food shop near Century Mill in Worli. Where he had ordered bhurji pav and a bottle of water. Officials said this digital record helped the police trace his whereabouts in Thane.

Eventually, the accused was found lying on the ground in a dense mangrove area near a labor camp in Hiranandani Estate, Thane.
Officials said that during interrogation, Shahzad told that he was nervous after seeing his picture on news channels and social media. He claimed that he was planning to flee to Bangladesh.
