Sachin Tendulkar Debut Series Broken Nose: November 15 is a very special day for Sachin Tendulkar and his fans. On this day in 1989, he made his international debut while playing a test match against Pakistan. Sachin was able to bat only once in the first test match, where he scored 15 runs. But here we are going to tell about an incident that happened in the fourth test of that India-Pakistan series, when Sachin Tendulkar’s nose was broken while playing.
The first three matches of the four-Test series ended in a draw. The last clash started in Sialkot from 9 December. At the age of just 16, facing the deadly bowlers of Pakistan was a very difficult challenge for Sachin. In those days, Wasim Akram, Imran Khan and Waqar Younis used to be included in Pakistan’s pace attack. In fact, during the fourth match of the series, a bouncer ball from Waqar Younis hit Sachin Tendulkar on the nose.
Did not return to the pavilion even after bleeding
This is about the last innings of Sialkot Test. Team India had taken a lead of 74 runs in the first innings and when India came to bat for the second time, the team had lost 4 wickets for 38 runs. The Indian team was in trouble, when 16-year-old Sachin came to bat at sixth position. Sachin was batting bravely, but as soon as Waqar Younis’ ball hit his nose, Sachin’s nose started bleeding.
Years after that incident, Sachin had revealed that if he had returned to the pavilion for medical examination, Pakistan would have dominated the match. At that time Javed Miandad also told him, “Your nose is broken, you will have to go to the hospital.” Sachin told that the Pakistan team wanted to end the match, hence Javed Miandad was trying to tease him and divert his attention. Sachin had played an important inning of 57 runs playing 134 balls in that innings.
