If you have been invited by an unknown person to join a WhatsApp group, then be careful. Russian hackers are trying to target people in this way. According to a new report from Microsoft, Russian hackers group Callisto, also known as Star Blizzard, is adopting such tactics to gain access to people’s online accounts. Once access to the account is lost, people may have to suffer huge losses.
Hackers are trapping people in this way
This group of hackers is associated with the Federal Security Service of Russia. These hackers first contact people by posing as an officer or leader and gain their trust. Once trust is established, they send a phishing email. As soon as people click on the link given in it, they reach a website which is run by hackers and here their passwords are stolen. Now this group is trying to target people’s WhatsApp accounts.
Taking help of QR code
Hackers try to access people’s accounts through QR codes. A QR code is given in the email. Hackers scan it and ask people to open WhatsApp account, but in reality it is a means to access the messages of the users. By doing this, complete access to the users’ messages goes to the hackers.
WhatsApp also warned users
WhatsApp has also warned users about this hacking attempt. It has been said by the company that always link your account by visiting the official website of WhatsApp. Apart from this, never click on the link sent by any unknown person.
