In the Paris Olympics 2024, the team of Bopanna and N Sriram Balaji lost 7-5, 6-2 in the first round of the men’s doubles competition. Now Rohan Bopanna has confirmed that this was the last match of his career. Bopanna represented India in international tennis for 22 years, but now he has put an end to his historic career.
While giving his retirement statement, he said, “This was the last tournament of my tennis career. I understand where I have reached as a player. Where I am is a huge achievement for me. I never thought that I would represent India at a very high level for more than 20 years. I made my debut in 2002 and even today, 22 years after that, I have been representing my country in the Olympics. I am very proud of this historic career.”
Will not participate in 2026 Asian Games
With the announcement of retirement, the chances of Rohan Bopanna participating in the 2026 Asian Games have vanished. Let us remind you that in the 2016 Rio Olympics, the team of Bopanna and Sania Mirza were deprived of winning a medal even after reaching the semi-finals of the mixed doubles. This time he had a chance to fulfill his dream of winning an Olympic medal along with Sriram Balaji, but the pair of Gael Monfils and Roger Vaselin of France did not let this happen.
