But this post had dashed his World Cup hopes. India needed replacement players due to injuries to Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar during the tournament, yet Rayudu was not included in the team.
Uthappa revealed secrets
After almost six years, former cricketer and T20 World Cup 2007 winner Robin Uthappa has made a big revelation on this controversy. In an interview given to Lallantop, Uthappa said that captain Virat Kohli had an important role in ousting Rayudu from the team. He said, “If Virat Kohli did not like a player, he would not have been kept in the team. Ambati Rayudu is the biggest example of this. Rayudu even had the World Cup kit and clothes ready. He was confident that he would play the World Cup. Will go, but the doors were closed for them at the last moment.
Rayudu’s cricket career
On 29 May 2023, Ambati Rayudu announced his retirement from all formats. Apart from Chennai Super Kings, he has also played matches for Mumbai Indians in IPL. Rayudu won the title a total of six times in IPL, which is the second highest record after Rohit Sharma. Rayudu was also a part of the team that won the Asia Cup 2018.
Ambati Rayudu has scored 1694 runs in 55 ODI matches at an average of 47.05. This includes 3 centuries and 10 half-centuries. Apart from this, he has also played 6 T20 International cricket matches.
