Rishabh Pant Breaks MS Dhoni Record: Rishabh Pant has been out after scoring 99 runs in the India-New Zealand test match being played in Bengaluru. In the match against New Zealand, Pant scored 99 runs in 105 balls, which was clean bowled by fast bowler William. He has now become only the second wicketkeeper batsman in the history of Indian cricket, who missed a century by just one run. Before him, in the year 2012, MS Dhoni was out on the score of 99.
Rishabh Pant came to bat in the second innings when Virat Kohli was out after scoring 70 runs. When Pant came to the crease, India had scored 231 runs at the loss of 3 wickets. After that Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan started batting in explosive style. There was an important partnership of 177 runs between the two. Sarfaraz scored 150 runs, while Pant’s innings ended on the score of 99. If he had completed the century, he would have left Dhoni behind and become the Indian wicket-keeper batsman who has scored the most centuries in Test cricket. Both have scored 6-6 centuries in test matches so far.
Second Indian wicketkeeper batsman after Dhoni
MS Dhoni became the first Indian wicket-keeper batsman who was out after scoring 99 runs. In December 2012, India-England Test match was being played in Nagpur, in the first innings of which Dhoni was run out on the score of 99 runs. He was run out by Alastair Cook. That match ended in a draw.
Let us remind you that in the last 10 years, no Indian batsman was out on the score of 99 in Test matches. The last time Murali Vijay could not score a century by a margin of one run was against Australia in 2014. After that, now Rishabh Pant is the first batsman to be out after scoring 99 runs in Test cricket. The Indian batsmen who got out after scoring 99 runs the maximum number of times in Test cricket were Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. Both these greats had missed scoring a century by just one run 10 times each in Test cricket.
