Now, during an interview, Dia revealed that she had to suffer a lot due to the flop of Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein.
After the flop of Rehna Hai…, Diya was dropped from many films
In a latest interview with Times of India, Dia Mirza revealed that she suffered a lot after the film ‘Rehnaa Hai Tere Dil Mein’ flopped. Dia said, “We were all devastated! I remember I was removed from many projects.”
However, the film gained immense popularity after it was aired on television and after many years, it gained cult status due to discussions on social media. On this, the actress said, “The film has gained a cult status because of the love the audience is giving to the film. This helped me realise how little the box office matters for a film that really connects with people. It is a gift that keeps on giving.”
R Madhavan-How was the experience of working with Saif?
Further in the interview, the ‘Rehnaa Hai Tere Dil Mein’ actress also talked about her experience of working with R Madhavan and Saif Ali Khan in the film. Dia said, “Maddy had already done a film in the South (Tamil film Minnale). He knew his character very well. I often felt that he was a mentor on the set, guiding, advising and generally being a gentleman. Today, we share a strong bond. Saif, on the other hand, always made me laugh. I loved spending time with him. He made me instantly comfortable with his clarity and humour.”

Directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, the film, ‘Rehnaa Hai Tere Dil Mein’ was released in the year 2001. Now, it is releasing again on August 30, 2024. The romantic drama was a remake of Menon’s Tamil film, Minnale. Both starred R Madhavan in the lead role. Madhavan played the role of ‘Shastri’ aka ‘Maddy’ in the film, while Dia Mirza’s character in the film was that of ‘Reena Malhotra’. Saif Ali Khan played the role of ‘Rajeev Samra’ aka ‘Sam’.
