Ravichandran Ashwin Announces Retirement: India’s legendary spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has announced his retirement from international cricket. India vs Australia Brisbane Test has been declared a draw due to rain. After the match was declared a draw, Ashwin told in the press conference that he is deciding to retire from international cricket. He took more than 700 wickets in his international career. Speculations about Ashwin’s retirement had already started. He was also seen talking to Virat Kohli for a long time before the Gaba test was cancelled.
Announcing his retirement, Ashwin said, “This is my last day as an Indian cricket player in all three formats of international cricket. I feel that there are still traces of a cricketer left in me, but my skills This is my last day in club-level cricket and I enjoyed this long journey with Rohit Sharma and all my teammates.
14 years, 765 wickets and 4394 runs
R Ashwin made his international debut in 2010 while playing a T20 match against Zimbabwe. He has created a legacy as a great bowler. In his international career, he represented India in 287 matches. As a bowler, he took 765 wickets in international cricket. He was the Indian bowler with the highest wicket taker after Anil Kumble in international cricket. Kumble had taken 956 wickets in his career in all three formats.
Ashwin also made his mark as an all-rounder. He scored 3,503 runs in Test cricket including 6 centuries and 14 fifties. He will be especially recognized as a Test legend. Ashwin’s historic career lasted for 14 years, in which apart from taking 765 wickets, he also scored 4394 runs. The last match of Ashwin’s career came in Australia when he scored 29 runs in the Adelaide Pink Ball Test and took one wicket in bowling.
