Ramayan: Everyone has heard Ramayana. Valmiki ji wrote Ramayana in Sanskrit language which tells the life story of Shri Ram. Meaning of Ramayana is Ram + Aayanam; which literally means the life journey of Ram. People know all the characters of Ramayana very well.
Ramayana is a sacred text. Its story is as idealistic as its characters are full of inspiration. Everyone knows the main characters of Ramayana. But can you tell who were Marich, Taraka and Subahu in Ramayana and what was their relation with Raavan?
Ravana’s relation with Maricha
Those who have seen Ramayana will know the name of Maricha very well. Maricha was the same demon who had taken the disguise of a deer in Treta Yuga due to which Sita ji was kidnapped.
In fact, to take revenge for the insult of Shurpanakha, Ravana reached Marich. Ravana was Marich’s nephew. On Ravana’s orders, Marich disguised himself as a golden deer and reached Panchvati. Due to which Ravana was successful in kidnapping Sita.
Ravana’s relation with Subahu
In Ayodhya Kand, when Gadhi’s son Munivar Vishwamitra came to Ayodhya, Dasharath welcomed him with respect. Munivar Vishwamitra had taken the initiation of fasting. But whenever the initiation of fasting was about to end, two demons named Marich and Subahu would destroy everything at his sacrificial altar. To stop their arbitrariness, Vishwamitra took Ram and Lakshmana along. Where Lakshman Ji killed Subahu with his Agniya Shastra. Ravana was Subahu’s nephew. Marich and Subahu were both brothers.
Raavan’s relationship with Taraka
Tadka was a beautiful Apsara, but due to a curse she became a demoness. She also married a demon from whom she had two sons. Whose names were Marich and Subahu. Due to the curse of sage Agastya, when Shri Ram killed Tadka in Treta Yug, she was redeemed. Tadka was Ravana’s maternal grandmother. Subahu and Marich were sons of Tadka.
