ABP Southern Rising Summit: Prakash Raj, who enthralled the audience by giving a different kind of scary and funny color to negative roles in films like Khaki, Wanted and Singham, was speaking today in the second edition of ABP Network’s Southern Rising Summit.
He presented his views here under the topic One Man Many Talents. He also talked about many things regarding politics and his concerns. First of all, he was asked that despite being busy, how do you remain so active? In response to this, Prakash Raj said something amazing.
How does Prakash Raj remain so active on social media?
Prakash Raj was asked that despite being so busy, how do you remain so active on social media. And express their views on different issues. To this Prakash Raj replied- ‘Because I am alive’.
When I came out of college and went to theater in Karnataka, I met many people. So his influence had a great impact on me. On Gauri Lankesh, Prakash Raj said that she was shot just because she spoke. While burying him, I said that I am not burying him, I am sowing him. So that people know that if you suppress one voice, another and even bigger voice comes to the fore.
What did Prakash Raj say on the death of his first child?
Pain is a different thing. Even after the death of my child and Gauri Lankesh, I have more responsibilities. I have daughters. I have responsibility for them too. So I have become stronger through pain.
What did Prakash Raj say about work?
Prakash Raj said that I can do all types of films from Singham to Kanjeevaram. That’s why I didn’t limit myself to just art cinema. I have done all types of films. Thanks to the directors for giving me such films. I can do both art and commercial cinema.
What are you worried about in today’s India?
Intolerance, people are getting brainwashed and I am worried about the politics of India. We are not reimagining the future. I am neither leftist nor right wing. I believe that everyone should get equal status. Many things bother you that you are not able to express your views, hence you are stopped. This feels bad.
Such people who do wrong politics do not want to sit and talk to you. They just want to silence you.
Why doesn’t Telugu film industry like you?
Cannot ring the plate with one hand. I was banned 8 times. I have always been an outsider everywhere. But there may be a mistake from my side also. But as I said, an attempt was made to silence me. That’s why it happened.
When does Prakash Raj feel happy?
I feel happy with my farm and children. I don’t have buildings in cities. I have many farms in Hyderabad, Mysore, Chennai. I work in these fields to talk to nature.
Mango in Hyderabad, Theater Incubated Center in Mysore. I want to do something for the coming generation. I also give fellowship. We are working on children’s education.
I was searching for my relevance in theatre. That’s why I have worked on theater using my resources. So that I can make theater better.
Are you planning to contest elections?
I will not be able to win in electoral politics. I wanted to know, I took a break from work for 7 months and met people so that I could understand the situation and the vote bank of national parties like BJP and Congress. I got first hand information. I wanted to talk to people. I did it and understood it and I consider it my victory.
What was most surprising in this journey?
I don’t blame people. I will blame the present political scenario and narrative for how things are being put into their minds. Whatever I am doing may not be right but I know that it is a process of doing something new. I say that you have to educate people so that they vote. 50 percent people don’t even vote.
