Liquor consumption in India: India has now become the second largest market for French liquor company Pernod Ricard. According to the company, India has left China behind. According to the company’s CEO Alexandre Ricard, the demand for their premium products Absolut Vodka, Chivas Regal and Glenlivet has increased rapidly in India. Alexandre Ricard says that this difference is coming due to increasing prosperity in India.
India came second after America in sales
Pernod Ricard’s chairman and CEO says that we are getting good signals from the Indian market. The country’s GDP is strong. The number of middle and upper middle class is increasing rapidly. Also, every year 2.5 crore youth are reaching drinking age in the country. Till last financial year, India was at number three in the company’s global sales after America and China. It was contributing about 10 percent to the company’s total sales. However, India has been the world’s largest market in terms of volume for many years. Now India has come to number 2, just behind America, with a 12 percent share. China’s share in the company’s sales has come down to 10 percent. America remains number 1 with 19 percent.
The company will build Asia’s largest distillery in Nagpur
Alexander Ricard said that the company’s annual sales are 11.5 billion euros. India’s business is contributing 1.38 billion euros (12,700) to this. Last year, the company had announced an investment of 200 million euros in India. They are going to build Asia’s largest distillery near Nagpur. Currently, they are running a distillery near Nashik. Apart from this, they have 24 bottling plants across the country. They are investing 35 million euros in India every year.
The company’s brands dominate the Indian whisky market
Pernod Ricard, the world’s second largest alcoholic beverage firm, controls about a quarter of the Indian whiskey market. The company’s products Blenders Pride, Royal Stag and Imperial Blue are the most sold in India. The company has a 42 percent share in India’s premium whiskey market.
