Olympics 2024 Semi-Final IND vs GER Amit Rohidas Banned: India has been performing brilliantly so far in the hockey event of Paris Olympics 2024. In the quarter-finals, India faced Great Britain, in which the match ended in a draw. After the draw, India won the match by penalty shootout and confirmed its place in the semi-finals. Now India will face Germany in the semi-finals.
There is bad news for the Indian hockey team and fans. Germany will play with 16 players in the semi-finals, while India will play with only 15 players. This is because Indian star defender Amit Rohidas has been banned for one match.
Hockey International Federation banned Amit Rohidas
This decision has been taken by the Hockey International Federation (FIH). Now Team India will not get the support of Amit’s strong defense in the semi-final against Germany. This news is a big shock for Indian fans.
FIH issued a press release saying- “Indian player Amit Rohidas (jersey number 30) has been suspended for one match for violating hockey rules during the match between India and Great Britain on August 4, 2024. Due to this, Amit Rohidas will not be able to play in the match to be held on August 6, 2024. India’s team will play this match with only 15 players.”
Why was Amit Rohidas banned?
Actually, during the match against Great Britain in the quarter-finals, Amit Rohidas was found guilty in an unfortunate incident. During the match, his stick collided with the head of the opponent player. The referee discussed this and then showed Amit a red card. Getting a red card means a ban of one match. There was a lot of debate on this decision on social media.
Sports commentator Sunil Taneja gave his opinion on this
There is a debate going on on social media over Amit Rohidas being banned by FIH for one match and that too from the semi-final match. All Indians are unhappy with this decision of FIH. Sports commentator Sunil Taneja tweeted on this – “Very bad decision. He should not have got a red card in the first place. HI has filed an appeal, and we all hope that Amit will play the next match.”
Terrible decision. It shouldn’t have been a red card in the first place.
HI has filed an appeal, and we all hope that Amit plays the next match. https://t.co/3QQ645wxE3โ ๐๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ฅ ๐๐๐ง๐๐ฃ๐ ๐ฎ๐ณ (@iSunilTaneja) August 4, 2024
