Neeraj Chopra’s heart was broken by Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification
Vinesh Phogat surprised everyone by defeating Japan’s Yui Susaki in her first match on Tuesday morning. At the same time, Neeraj Chopra also took the field for his qualification at the Stade de France. India’s Tokyo Olympic champion Neeraj was very happy when he came to know about Vinesh’s big win. But his happiness turned into disappointment the very next day, when Vinesh had to face disqualification.
Reacting to this incident, Neeraj Chopra said, “Whatever she has done here is an example. Defeating Yui Susaki is a great achievement in itself. And whatever happened after that, I don’t understand the rules of wrestling that much, but she was moving towards the gold with confidence. Then this disqualification happened, and I felt very, very sad.”
Neeraj further said, “Vinesh ji’s journey has been very difficult. Recovering from a serious injury in the 2016 Rio Olympics and then facing more injuries in 2020. She has faced many personal problems. And yet she reached this point and remained so mentally strong… everything was going well, then God had something else in mind. But we know that whatever she has done is great.”
