Rai Benjamin is the son of former West Indies cricketer Winston Benjamin. Born in New York, Rai began his sports career in cricket and American football, but later focused on track events. Rai Benjamin represented Antigua and Barbuda at the 2013 World Youth Championships and the 2015 World Relays and then moved to American Athletics. Apart from the gold medal in Paris, Rai has also won silver medals in the 400m hurdles at the 2019 and 2022 World Championships.

Rai Benjamin represented the US at the Paris Olympics 2024. He made the US proud by winning the gold medal not only in the 400m hurdles but also in the 4x400m relay.
International Cricket Performance of Winston Benjamin
Winston Benjamin played 21 Tests and 85 ODIs for West Indies. He took 61 wickets in Tests and 100 in ODIs. Although he could not establish himself as an iconic cricketer, he contributed to many important victories for West Indies. After retiring from cricket, Benjamin moved towards coaching and grooming young cricketers.
On his son’s success at the Paris Olympics, Winston Benjamin told Cricbuzz, “I have never seen anyone experience this before. It was an amazing moment. I am very happy with his achievement, because I know how hard he has worked.” Benjamin further said, “Winning individual gold was very important for him. He left no stone unturned. This is really an amazing achievement.”
