22-year-old Brazilian swimmer Ana Carolina Vieira made the mistake of leaving the Olympic Village without permission. She had gone out for a night out with her boyfriend and fellow swimmer Gabriel Santos. Let us tell you that Gabriel Santos himself is also a Brazilian swimmer.
Brazilian Olympic Committee takes action against Carolina Vieira
The next day, Vieira participated in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay, in which Brazil finished seventh. But at night she left the Olympic Village without telling anyone. This was revealed by her social media post, after which the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) took action.
Brazil’s swimming team chief Gustavo Otsuka informed COB about the matter. He said that Vieira had also questioned the team’s decision. However, her boyfriend was only warned.
COB said, “Ana Carolina questioned the team’s decision and did not behave properly. Therefore, Gabriel Santos has been warned and Ana Carolina has been excluded from the team. She will have to return to Brazil immediately.”
Otsuka said, “We have not come here to play or to celebrate holidays. We are working for Brazil. We cannot joke here. He used the wrong method to express his views. We talked to the disciplinary committee and took a decision.”
Ana Carolina left all her belongings in the Olympic Village
According to the Daily Mail, Vieira said, “My luggage is in the Olympic Village, I went to the airport wearing shorts. I had to open my suitcase at the airport. I am in Portugal right now, then I will go to Recife and then to Sao Paulo.”
She further said, “I am helpless, I cannot access anything, I cannot talk to anyone. They told me to contact COB channels. But how do I contact them?” Vieira also said that she is trying to resolve the matter with her legal team.
