Paris Olympics 2024: 6 archers from India are participating in Paris Olympics 2024, including 3 female athletes. The names of these three female archers are Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhagat and Bhajan Kaur. These 3 names would like to get India its first medal in archery in the history of Olympics. Well, before they participate in the competition on 25th July, let us know how their journey to the Olympics has been.
Deepika Kumari – Born in Ranchi, Deepika Kumari first gained recognition when she won two gold medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi at the age of just 16. At one time, she started her professional archery career with a stipend of Rs 500. At the age of 18, Deepika qualified for the 2012 London Olympics, but was eliminated in the first round due to poor performance due to high fever. 30-year-old Deepika has been an 11-time gold medalist in the Archery World Cup. After that, she also qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, but her wait to win a medal is still on. In 2024, she will participate in the Olympic Games for the fourth time.
Ankita Bhagat – Ankita Bhagat was the gold medalist of the Youth World Archery Championship in 2017, but has not been able to participate in the Olympics yet. She will be making her Olympic debut in 2024. Ankita is from Kolkata and her father used to sell milk. She started participating in professional archery competitions at the age of 10. She is currently the world’s number 40 archer, but she achieved her career-high ranking in 2021 when she reached number 17.
Bhajan Kaur – 18-year-old Bhajan Kaur will also be making her Olympic debut in 2024. This young archer from Haryana qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024 by winning the gold medal in the Olympic qualifiers held in June 2024. Kaur first got recognition in the archery world when she won the bronze medal in the women’s recurve team event along with Ankita Bhagat and Simranjit Kaur at the 2022 Asian Games. Bhajan Kaur is ranked 45th in the world rankings and would like to make her country proud in her Olympic debut.
