Manu Bhaker Coach Jaspal Rana Inspirational Story: Indian pistol shooting legend Jaspal Rana is known for his passion and dedication towards the sport. He broke many junior records in his career and won many medals at the international level. However, the Olympic medal remained missing from his trophy cabinet. But Jaspal’s dream was fulfilled with Manu Bhaker winning the bronze medal in Paris Olympics 2024. Jaspal was also seen standing among the audience and praising Manu.
Jaspal has always been in the news, be it his many attempts to make a comeback in sports or his entry into politics. One of his greatest achievements is winning three gold medals at the Doha Asian Games 2006 despite suffering from fever, a record that no Indian shooter has been able to break till date.
After winning the gold medal in the 25 meter central fire pistol event at the 1994 Hiroshima Asian Games, Jaspal Rana proved that Indian shooters can become world level shooters. In his career, he got the guidance of famous Hungarian coach Tibor Gonzol, who taught him the nuances. Jaspal always dreamed of winning a medal in the Olympics, but the Standard Pistol and Central Fire Pistol events were not included in the Olympics, which disappointed him.
After becoming the junior national coach, Jaspal identified young talents, including Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary, who later represented India at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. However, before Tokyo, there was a difference of opinion between Jaspal and Manu and both of them separated. But Manu was greatly impressed by Jaspal’s strict training and discipline.
When Manu Bahkar’s performance deteriorated after Tokyo, the two made up again. Now the pair of Jaspal Rana and Manu Bahkar has become a new example of guru-disciple. Now Jaspal Rana focuses on every minute of preparation to ensure Manu’s success in any competition. Be it pistol grip or fine tuning, Jaspal helps Manu in every detail so that he can win more medals.
