Social Media Use for Children: In today’s time, everyone has a smartphone in their hands. From young to old, everyone is active on social media. While on one hand there are advantages of social media, on the other hand it also has disadvantages. Now children under 18 years of age will have to take parental consent to create an account on social media. In fact, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued draft rules for the Personal Digital Data Protection Act (DPDP) rules. Changes will be made in the meeting on the basis of objections received till February 18, otherwise it will be continued.

Personal digital data protection rules were long awaited. In the draft now prepared by the government, there is no mention of any punitive action for violation of rules. Now the government has sought opinion from the people regarding issuing the rules. A final decision on this will be taken after February 18. In which people’s opinion will be taken into consideration. Along with this, fine will also be imposed on companies that do not follow the rules.
Provision to impose fine up to Rs 250 crore
This notification states that in exercise of the powers of sub-sections (1) and (2) of section 40 of the Personal Digital Data Protection Act-2023, the Central Government has issued orders to make such provisions as may be made on or after the date of coming into force of the Act. The draft of the proposed rules has been released for the information of the people. It has been said that these draft rules will be considered after February 18, 2025. In this rule, there is a provision to impose a fine of up to Rs 250 crore on the data fiduciary.
