Many businessmen are now seriously thinking about taking their business out of the country.
Internet speed in the country has almost halved
According to a report in Pakistan’s leading newspaper The Dawn, the country’s largest internet service provider has claimed that the government is keeping a close watch on internet traffic. The Internet Service Providers Association of Pakistan (WISPAP) has said that due to this, the internet speed in the country has decreased by 30 to 40 percent in the last few weeks. This decision of the Pakistan government has become a new challenge for the digital economy. Businesses dependent on the internet are in shock. They are facing great difficulty in working.
These sectors were seriously affected by the slowdown in internet
According to the report, the slow internet is ruining the business of e-commerce, call centers, electronics and online job holders. According to WISPAP, all these sectors are the backbone of the country’s digital economy. Apart from this, social media platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook have also come into trouble. People are complaining about this everywhere. It is being claimed that the government has installed a firewall. But, Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) has termed these allegations as rumors.
Thinking about shifting business to other countries
Due to internet problems, people are seriously thinking of shifting their business to other countries. Internet service provider business is also heading towards loss. WISPAP has warned that if the situation does not improve, then soon a large number of businessmen will migrate. Running VPN in the country is now becoming almost impossible. The Pakistan government had estimated that by 2025, the contribution of Information and Communications Technology in the country’s GDP will be 8.15 percent and that of the IT industry will be 13 percent. But with the internet in such a condition, achieving this figure seems impossible.
