After tomatoes, to curb the skyrocketing prices of onions, the government has started selling them at discounted prices. The sale of onions at discounted prices was started a day earlier on Thursday. Under this, people are getting a chance to buy onions at just Rs 35 per kg.

Union Minister Prahlad Joshi started this campaign to provide relief to the common people from the increasing budget of the kitchen. The Minister of Food Distribution and Consumer Affairs, while starting the campaign, said that in the first phase, onions are being made available to the people of Delhi-NCR and Mumbai at cheap prices. Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare said that the sale will be done at a total of 38 places in Delhi-NCR, including Krishi Bhawan, National Cooperative Union Complex, Rajiv Chowk Metro Station, Patel Chowk Metro Station and some parts of Noida. People will be able to buy cheap onions in places like Parel and Lower Malad in Mumbai.
Benefits will also be available in these cities from next week
In the second phase, it will be started in the state capitals. The second phase will start from next week, in which cities like Kolkata, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Raipur will be covered.
In the third phase, the campaign will start across the country
Apart from major cities, people of other cities will also soon be made available onions at cheap rates. The Union Minister said in this regard that in the third phase of the campaign, onions will be sold at cheap rates across the country. The availability of onions at discounted rates across the country will start from the third week of September.
This is how cheap onions are being sold
The onions being made available at discounted rates by the government are being sold through cooperative agencies like NAFED and NCCF. Cooperative agencies are selling onions at cheap rates through dedicated vans. The government plans to make subsidized onions available on other platforms as well.

Everyone can take advantage of this government campaign. The Union Minister clarified that there will be no need to show any identity card or card to buy cheap onions being provided by the government. There is also no limit on the quantity of subsidized onions to be purchased. That is, common people will be able to buy as much onion as they want at cheap rates according to their need.
