ONDC Online Shopping Platform: To reduce the dominance of big e-commerce companies like Amazon and Flipkart in the country, the Government of India has started a new initiative in the form of ONDC. Its full name is Open Network for Digital Commerce. This is an e-commerce platform, where sellers can sell their goods directly to customers without any middleman.
Through this, lakhs of vendors in small towns and rural areas are economically empowered. However, now on this platform, a fee of up to Rs 1.20 may have to be paid for transactions above Rs 250. The revenue collected from this will be used to meet the new needs of the industry.
There was huge shopping in the festive season
In the festive season of October, up to 14 lakh transactions were recorded on ONDC’s platform, whereas a month before in September, 12.9 lakh transactions took place, which shows an increase of 7.6 percent in this one month. Now on this government platform for online buying and selling, an average purchase of up to Rs 5 lakh is being made every day.
Up to Rs 90,000 worth of food items are being sold on the platform every day, while transactions worth around Rs 10,000 are happening every day in the beauty and personal care segment. Similarly, daily transactions of Rs 40,000 and 20-30,000 are taking place in fashion and kitchen segments respectively.
Whereas a decline has been recorded in the transactions of its mobility sector. Of the total 6.7 million transactions in April 2024, 3.6 million were mobility related. These include Nammayatri, Yatri Sathi and Delhi Transport Corporation.
More and more vendors are joining ONDC
The number of vendors on ONDC is also increasing, which has crossed the number of 160. These include many retailers like PayTM, Snapdeal, More, PinCode and MagicPin. Currently, there are more than 70 apps for shopping on ONDC, out of which 40 are such apps through which purchases are being made daily.
