The University Grants Commission is preparing to make a major change in the admission to Undergraduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) courses in universities across the country. Now your work experiences will get preference in admission to university courses. According to a media report, you will also get credit for this.
The duration of the course will also be reduced upon admission and you will be able to complete this course in less time. Besides, the course fees will also be less. The University Grants Commission has prepared the draft of Recognition of Prior Learning Regulation, which will be implemented in the university.
Credit will be available in UG and PG admissions of universities
According to UGC Chairman Prof. Jagdish Kumar, to avail the benefit of this scheme, the person taking admission will have to prove his experiences. For this you will have to create your own portfolio. There will also be a test and interview of the candidates. The first year of any regular course like undergraduate course will be 40 credits. An undergraduate course is of 120 credits.
In this, 70 percent credits will be of regular course and up to 30 percent weightage can be given to previous experiences. Similarly, in undergraduate course, 84 credits of regular course and 36 credits of previous experiences can be given. The four-year undergraduate course is of 160 credits. Understand this with an example
A nurse who has done Diploma in Nursing and wants to take admission in B.Sc Nursing in the university, she has to submit her diploma, details of the course and a letter from the employer giving detailed information about her work and experiences. Its diploma curriculum will be matched with the B.Sc Nursing course.
The evaluation center will conduct written examination and practical evaluation. After evaluation it will be decided how much credit he can get. Whatever credits the nurse gets will be deducted from the B.Sc Nursing course. This will also reduce the duration of the course.
