Shami was the highest wicket-taker in the 2023 World Cup and four years before that, he created a stir when he got a chance in the 2019 World Cup. But the management of Team India did not even give him a place in the playing eleven on important occasions. Now Shami has broken his silence on that subject and has given a big statement.
Let us remind you that Mohammad Shami took 14 wickets in just four matches in the 2019 ODI World Cup. Recalling the same performance, he said, “I did not play the first 4-5 matches in the 2019 World Cup. I took a hat-trick in the very next match and after that took a 5-wicket haul and then took 4 wickets in the next match. Something similar happened in 2023 as well. I did not play in the first few matches, but as soon as I came, I took 5 wickets in a match. After that I took four and then again took a 5-wicket haul in the next match.

Mohammad Shami also said, “They often think that every team needs players who can perform well. I took 13 wickets in 3 matches. What more can I do?” Let us tell you that Shami had taken 14 wickets in 4 matches on the basis of his devastating bowling. Still, he was dropped in the last league match against Sri Lanka and then in the semi-final clash against New Zealand.
Shami’s World Cup record is historic
Mohammad Shami is the highest wicket-taker in the history of ODI World Cup. He has taken 55 wickets in just 18 World Cup matches. He is also the bowler with the highest number of 5-wicket hauls in World Cup history. After Shami, Zaheer Khan is in second place in terms of taking the most wickets, who took 44 wickets in 23 matches.
