IND vs SL: The first match of the ODI series between India and Sri Lanka was played in Colombo. You may not have noticed, but two players with the same name are playing in the Indian and Sri Lankan teams. Team India has Mohammed Siraj, who has always wreaked havoc with his bowling against Sri Lanka. On the other hand, Mohammed Shiraz is also present in the Sri Lankan team. Although the spelling of their names is different, both their names sound the same. Mohammed Shiraz is a 29-year-old fast bowler who has made his international debut in this match against India.
Confusion is arising regarding the name Mohammad Siraj because a player with the same name is playing in both India and Sri Lanka teams. Another similarity between them is that both players bowl fast with the right hand. On one hand, Siraj made his ODI cricket debut for India in 2019, after which he has taken 68 wickets. On the other hand, Sri Lanka’s Mohammad Siraj has been performing consistently well in domestic cricket and due to that he has got a chance to make his international debut against India.
The story of Mohammed Shiraz of Sri Lanka?
Mohammad Shiraz has been replaced by Mathisha Pathirana in the Sri Lankan squad, who had to withdraw from the series due to injury. Although Shiraz’s official debut has happened now, he got the opportunity to debut in the Sri Lankan team many years ago. In 2019, he got a place in the Sri Lankan team for the Test series against South Africa but then he did not get a place in the playing XI. Apart from taking 125 wickets in 49 first-class matches, Shiraz has also scored 383 runs. At the same time, his bowling record in List-A career is excellent. In his List-A career, he has 80 wickets in 47 matches.
