Mansukh Mandaviya On 2036 Olympics: The Paris Olympics is starting from 26 July. This mega event will conclude on 11 August. Meanwhile, big information is coming out. Actually, India is continuously presenting its claim for the 2036 Olympics. Today in the Lok Sabha, Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya put forth his views on Olympics 2036 and India’s hosting. Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya said that the allocation of hosting rights for the Olympics is done by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) through a detailed host selection process, which is clear in the public domain, the IOC has a dedicated body Future Host Commission (FHC) to deal with this matter.
The Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports further said that the interested National Olympic Committees (NOCs) have to initiate negotiations with the FHC, which later takes the form of continuous negotiations and, ultimately, talks with the selected NOC. After the FHC completes these negotiations, the IOC holds Executive Board elections in which members vote to award the right to host the respective Olympic Games.
He also added that India’s NOC, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), has begun the process of negotiations with the FHC. The decision to include any sport in the Olympic Games is taken by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Among other things, the IOC has stipulated that a sport must be governed by an international federation that is committed to abide by the rules of the Olympic Charter, that the sport must be widely practised around the world and that it must meet various criteria. He further adds that this decision is taken either by the IOC Executive Board, the supreme organ of the IOC, at a session that is theoretically held seven years before the opening of the respective Olympic Games, or at a session electing the respective host of the Olympic Games, whichever is later.
