Manoj Tiwary on Ravichandran Ashwin Retirement: Indian cricket team’s experienced off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin recently surprised everyone by suddenly retiring from international cricket during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. His decision created a stir in the cricket world and many speculations started. Ashwin did not participate in the first Test played in Perth, but he was a part of the team in the second day-night Test. However, he was dropped again in the third test. Immediately after the Brisbane Test was drawn, Ashwin announced his retirement in the post-match press conference.
Ashwin’s sudden retirement announcement has raised questions among fans and cricket experts whether he was subjected to any kind of abusive behavior in the team. Now former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwari has also expressed his opinion on this.
Manoj Tiwari said, “I feel Ashwin was not treated properly. Young players like Washington Sundar and Tanush Kotian are good, but when you have an experienced player like Ashwin, why was Washington given priority? Also, Making Washington bowl more overs than Ashwin is also an insult to him.”
Manoj Tiwari believes that Ashwin has given such great performances in his career that he cannot retire just like that. He said, “Ashwin may not say anything openly, but one day he will definitely put his point forward. Players need respect and appreciation, which they did not get.”
Ravichandran Ashwin took 537 wickets and scored 3,503 runs in 106 Test matches in his career. He has 6 centuries and 14 half-centuries to his name. He is the second most successful bowler for India in Test cricket after Anil Kumble. He has also played 116 ODI and 65 T20 matches.
