Lovlina Borgohain Paris Olympics 2024: India’s Lovlina Borgohain, bronze medallist at Tokyo Olympics 2024, has been eliminated from Paris Olympics 2024. She lost by split decision to China’s Li Qian in the women’s 75kg weight category competition. The judges ruled 4-1 in favour of the Chinese boxer. Lovlina had earlier entered the quarterfinals by defeating Norway’s Suniva Hofstad in the round of 16.
India’s Lovlina was trailing 3-2 in the first round, while in the second round also China’s Li Qian managed to impress 3 judges. In the final round, she did even better than before and won the match 4-1 and made it to the semi-finals. Let us tell you that Lovlina had to face a 0-5 defeat in the final of the Asian Games last year, but she took her revenge by defeating Qian in the semi-finals of the World Championship 2023. But in the pre-Olympic tournament held in Czechia, Lovlina once again had to face defeat from this Chinese boxer.
India’s all hopes in boxing are over
India’s Amit Panghal, Nikhat Zareen, Preeti Pawar and Jasmine Lamboria were eliminated by the round of 16. But Nishant Dev and Lovlina Borgohain were the only Indian boxers who could reach the quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics. Shortly before Lovlina, Nishant Dev also had to face a 1-4 defeat against Mexico’s Marco Alonso Verde in the men’s 71 kg competition. With this, all hopes of India’s medal in boxing have ended. India got a medal in boxing in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, but this time the Indian boxing camp will be forced to return home empty-handed.
