Laskhya Sen Badminton Paris Olympics 2024: India has won a total of 3 medals in the Paris Olympics so far, but everyone’s eyes were also on badminton. Now Lakshya Sen, India’s last hope for a medal in badminton in the Olympics 2024, is also out. He had to face defeat 22-20, 21-14 against world number-2 player Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen. He surrendered in the end even after gaining an early lead in both the games. Everyone from PV Sindhu to the pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Reddy had medal hopes.
This happened for the first time in 12 years
Actually, India had been winning medals in badminton continuously for the last 12 years, but this series has been broken in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Saina Nehwal won bronze in the 2012 London Olympics, PV Sindhu won silver medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics. Four years later, Sindhu also won bronze medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Unfortunately, this time no Indian athlete has been able to win a medal in badminton. Talking about Lakshya Sen, he played very well till the quarter-finals and also gave a tough fight to Viktor Axelsen in the semi-finals. But somewhere he was defeated by this Danish player in terms of experience.
All have failed
PV Sindhu did not seem to be in good touch this time as she was continuously losing in the quarterfinals and semifinals of big tournaments in 2024. Due to this, she has also dropped out of the top-10 in the rankings. But the highest expectations were from Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Reddy, who are the world’s number five pair in men’s doubles. The pair of Chirag and Satwik were eliminated after losing a very close match in the quarterfinals. Despite India’s growing dominance in badminton, not being able to win any medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics seems a matter of shame.
